“Maneater”

I keep on hearing the chorus from that new Nelly Furtado song in my head. You should listen to it.

This from a website I found while surfing for “Zombie Armageddon”…

True, Zombie!Alice would probably be less conventionally good-looking than NotUndead!Alice, but then standards of beauty and the media portrayal thereof would doubtless come round and before you know it, greeny-blue skin, missing digits, and having purplish-red ichor dribblying down your chin would be the new black.

From a discussion on what to do when the Zombie Armageddon arrives.

Zombie Pinups

Posted in Zombies on the Web on August 22nd, 2006 by Marshall

Okay, so I was just checking out our site statistics the other day–only to find that we haven’t yet matched the traffic on our peak date, August 4th 2006–when I noticed that one of our top search strings is “sexy zombie pics.” This made me curious. Who’s looking for sexy zombie pics? Is there such a thing? So I ran the search, of course.

What came up was probably one of the weirdest zombie sites I’ve seen yet–which is saying quite a bit. Zombie Pinups. That’s right. Pinups. Of girls dressed as zombies.

So I guess there is such a thing as sexy zombie pics.

Oh. My.

Shop Zombie.

I really want a shirt that says “I love zombies.” Really.

Zombie Song on Garage Band

Posted in Music, Zombies on the Web on August 16th, 2006 by Marshall

Okay, those of you who are desperate to hear the music, we posted a rough mix of “Zombies Unite!” on our Garage Band page.

Go check it out!

Also, I thought I’d include a few links for our ongoing “Zombies On The Web” series:

Zombies? The comic!!

And from the same site (not zombies, but damn cool):

Kill your barbie dolls!

And, I guess I’m straying ever farther from the zombie theme of this blog, is the Original Alamo’s entrants for their recent Blank on a Blank contest. As absolutely EVERYONE who’s ANYONE knows, this contest was inspired by Snakes on a Plane. Entrants received a randomly generated animal and a randomly generated vehicle. Definitely check out Frogs on a Helicopter, featuring our very own Mormon / Zombie Becky.

And, last but not least, our fundraiser this Friday made it to the Ist List on the Austinist. That’s right. We’re recommended, bitches.

Zombie Simulation

Posted in Zombies on the Web on August 7th, 2006 by Marshall

So I noticed no one’s posted yet today, so I figured I’d put in my two cents. I was surfing around this afternoon when I figured I’d run a web search for “zombie.” (I’ve been looking around, by the way, and have found that almost no one has blogged about our South Congress Zombie Attack, except for one dude on the Yellow Tape blog). I then found this awesome simulation, which would be cool to check out if you ever have a bunch of free time.

http://kevan.org/proce55ing/zombies/

It basically simulates zombies taking over a town. Isn’t that cool?

Local Zombie reading

Posted in Zombies on the Web on August 5th, 2006 by Ian

I don’t know how I didn’t know this, but apparently our friend Bowie Ibarra, who’s been in a couple of Loaded Gun Theory shows, is also a published author, of a book called Down the Road. A book about zombies.

You can hear an interview with Bowie on the Snark Infested Waters podcast at:

http://www.gmpodcasting.net/podcast/siw/index.php?id=69

Also, from Snark Infested Waters, don’t miss this link to the band Naked Ape and check out their video for the song “Fashion Freak.” Sexy zombie carwash, indeed.

No Bombs!

Posted in Announcements, Zombies on the Web on July 27th, 2006 by Tim

Just a quick reminder to anyone thinking of participating in our Zombie Walk. Don’t bring backpacks that look like bombs. In fact don’t bring anything that might look like you in any way could hurt someone:

Of course, I guess if the police want to harrass Zombies, they’ll harrass zombies. Police are always trying to keep the Zombies down.

Zombie Origins

Posted in Zombies on the Web on June 25th, 2006 by courtney

Whilst looking for the oldest zombie movie I could find at I Heart Video, I came across White Zombie. Had Bella Lugosi in it, so it seemed old enough.
When I watched it, I realized that our ideas about zombies have changed a lot since the 1930s. This movie, which took place in Haiti, was indeed about reanimated people, but their reanimation involved being given a voodoo drug that caused them to fall into a deep sleep at which point they were proclaimed dead. The poor creature was then “resurrected” to forever serve their master, the person who had given them the drug in the first place. In addition to sending the recipient into a deep coma, the drug also caused a loss of soul once they were awakened.
This prompted me to tap Wikipedia to learn the origins of the term Zombie. Now, it is Wikipedia, so take this with a grain of salt. According to Wiki, the term zombie originally comes from Voodoo folklore and is defined as a “human body re-animated by supernatural means and shamanistic medicine to create dread among the living.”
A bokor (a dark voodoo priest) or a mambo (a female voodoo High Priest) can reanimate a corpse and will retain control of the zombie, as zombies have no will or soul to act independently. Now, there is some belief that the priests don’t actually resurrect the dead, but give living people drugs that cause them to seem dead. The priest can then miraculously raise the dead person from their grave to do their bidding.
[Answers.com even has a recipe for creating your own zombie to do your bidding! (second entry)]
Wikipedia then goes on to claim that our current vision of zombies came from I Am Legend, a book by Richard Matheson. Now, the creatures described in this book are more like vampires, what with their taste for blood and distaste for all things sunshine related, so I don’t know what they’re talking about. But it is Wikipedia, after all. The movie The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price, is a loose adaptation of I Am Legend as is Omega Man with Charlton Heston.
Afterword: Well, Holy Crap! I did a google search for I Am Legend, and yet another movie adaptation of this book is being created as we speak. It’s due out in 2007 and will star Will Smith.

Musical update…

Posted in Music, Announcements, Zombies on the Web on June 18th, 2006 by Ian

So, this past week we had an Unbearables practice with the horn section. That’s right, brass. The Zombie Rock Orchestra will include some badass players. After just one practice they were already making the songs sound even more amazing then they already do. The horns will be recording the songs with us in the recording sessions coming up over the next few weeks, but the first time the general public will be exposed to their amazingness is going to be August 18th for the Zombie Rock Fundraiser at Red’s Scoot Inn.

Also, another zombie link for your enjoyment…
Michael Lalonde, out of Canada, writes the web comic OrneryBoy.  One of the main characters is Brian, the friendly neighborhood zombie.  Check it out.
