"The four songs that make up Autonomy vs Shame are a bit like The Decemberists but not without their standout differences. The nine members make use every instrument around them, but here’s the difference which I love, they don’t forget that a guitar has pedals that can make a song hit harder without distorting into a Jesus and Mary Chain tribute band. The electric strums come in at the right moments and fade when not suitable. The chorus of singers grab all the perfect moments of an epic song and the builds are fantastical."
"Their name may be the Unbearables, but the music sure isn't! The descriptions of this Austin, Teaxs-based group's wonderfully unique sound are numerous: uplifting, orchestral, operatic. The comparisons are equally plentiful: Wilco, Surfjan Stevens, The Sonics. The ingredients of the mix: a little indie-pop (with a west-coast, sixities-sound flair to boot), a little punk, and nine musicians that are a perfect fit for one-another. I'm a sucker for music, especially moogs and flutes, that absolutely loads you onto a thought and carries you so far away that waking up back where you started feels like a high school high. Autonomy vs. Shame is out now, and the companions will be out in February and May of 2009, with a new full-length emerging in July. The Unbearables are Josh Crochet(drums), Marshall Escamilla(vocals/guitars), Heather Pharr(vocals), Harrison Speck(bass), Ian LeClair(farfisa/noise), Amber Nepodal(trumpet/clarinet/sax/vocals), Eva Mueller(vocals/moog), Rebecca Thompson(vocals/flautist extraordinaire), and Caitlyn Berry(vocals/percussion). A group of people who must be a blast to be around (remember the Zombie rock opera?), I can't wait for the next two releases to see just what they've come up with next. Highly recommended."
"This nine piece band sounds like The Mamas & The Papas with a bit of Dave Davies' guitar licks thrown in. File under Polyphonic Spree melodic indie rock. "
